Nuts in June

A little reported conference happened in London this week—a grand gathering sponsored by the so-called Alliance for Responsible Citizenship, which might better be named the Alliance for Irresponsible Toxicity. It was a line-up of some of the most obnoxious right-wing types from the UK and US. One attendee, by video link, was Trump’s Energy Secretary, Chris Wright, a fossilised man to his fossil fuel core, who DeSmog reports
 
‘In his remarks, Wright lauded energy from fossil fuels as good for the economy and society at large. “Always more people die in the winter than die in summer,” Wright said, “because cold is a vastly larger killer than heat is,” citing the excess deaths across Europe due to high energy prices after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Wright also urged the UK to “change course” and embrace fossil fuels, and called climate change a “slow-moving phenomenon” that would be addressed by technology.’

So if you die from heat, at least you can be reassured that you are one of the few making a sacrifice to keep the coal fires burning. Perhaps Mr Wright stayed at home to avoid this week’s record breaking heatwave.
