+In response to the far right riots in the last couple of days, Keir Starmer has announced the police will have a new ‘national capability’ to deal with disorder. Has it at last been recognised that such disorder usually stems from the far right, and not, e.g. pro-Palestinian marches? Does this latest announcement suggest that far right groups weren’t being sufficiently investigated in the first place? Probably. But thanks to the likes of ‘Tommy Robinson’ and his admirers, it is now more likely than not that the police will feel they have an even greater license to clamp down on peaceful left wing protests. I shall be interested to see how exactly this new ‘national police capability’ will be set up. Perhaps free prescriptions for pensioners could be cancelled to help pay for it. Where there’s a will there’s a way!
+I read today that average temperatures in the Antarctic have reached 28 degrees C above the norm. It’s supposed to be the Antarctic winter. Serious sea level rise may happen quicker than predicted, but that is par for the course with climate change futurology. Not that anyone should be allowed to vigorously protest against climate change of course. Here in North Yorkshire fracking has raised its ugly head again, with an application made near to Scarborough for some ‘exploratory tests,’ using a loophole in legislation which bans fracking generally. If necessary, I may have to lie in front of a bulldozer.
